Nostalgia troubles
Jul. 11th, 2005 09:43 pmThe Phantom Regiment were simply amazing. Wish I had remembered to bring the camera, but no picture, no audio or video could show how powerful and dynamic they were. The marching was... wait. If you've never seen a professional drum corp you don't know what I mean. I'm sure you are thinking about musicians marching around in straight lights with turns... nothing could be farther from the truth. It's kind of like thinking that an opera is just like a junior high choir. That's not to say junior high choirs can't be good (I've seen a few myself) but to compare it to an opera. Opera is a good comparison because the color guard and the marching band come together to put on a performance that simply thrills. If you like me and played a brass instrument and "marched" it's in comprehensible how they can move that well, that fast, and play so well! The regional bands were also very good, but they do not compare to Phantom and other top tier corps.
So the next day I got really depressed. Why? Well the nostalgia of marching and playing the tuba hit me hard. Also at the time of my peak interest I was very dysfunctional. Putting it all together made for a long weekend. Though some how bunny and managed to produce some curtains. Pictures to follow.
