Great word! I had never seen it before. I'm trying to follow the philosophy more than the modern meaning of the word. Today it just means some one who hedonisticly indulges in pleasure. Epicurus was more wise than that and seems to be about balancing present pleasure with future pleasure. A good example is drinking alcohol. Many people when they drink, drink to get drunk, but when I drink I limit myself so I can enjoy the feeling and not have the negative impacts of getting drunk. The average american morality tells you that you should not drink, so when people do drink, they indulge and go do far.
